Now El Mala is fit to start, while Ache leads the line in Dallinga’s continued absence, offering a more direct option even if it removes the Dutch striker’s impact off the bench.

HSV’s desperation, plus home advantage, makes them dangerous. One early goal could flip the mood completely. Yet Koln’s expected control in midfield through Skhiri and Krauss, combined with El Mala’s pace against a defence leaking more than four goals per game, tilts the balance towards the visitors.

Prediction: Hamburger SV 0-1 FC Koln

Stuttgart vs Borussia Dortmund (Saturday, 5:30pm)

Borussia Dortmund have started with a perfect record. That perfection now walks into a test of nerve in Stuttgart.

BVB sit second, level on nine points after three matchweeks, separated from top spot only by goal difference. They have been efficient, not always sparkling, but they keep winning. Stuttgart, in 14th with three points, are still trying to piece their season together.

The hosts can hurt teams going forward, and Dortmund’s back line will be asked serious questions. A clean sheet would be a surprise. Yet Stuttgart’s problems without the ball have been glaring; they look disjointed, too easily pulled apart when opponents raise the tempo.
