Burnley Sign Defender Alleyne to Boost Promotion Hopes

Burnley have moved to sharpen their promotion push by bringing in highly rated 21-year-old defender Alleyne, who arrives after a split season between Manchester City and Watford.

The England Under-21 international spent the first half of the 2025-26 campaign on loan at Vicarage Road, where he quickly built a reputation for front-foot defending in the Championship. In league action for Watford, he made the second-most tackles (20) of any defender at the club, won the third-most duels (72) and registered the fourth-most clearances (76) — numbers that underline why top-flight sides have kept him firmly on their radar.

City recalled him midway through the season as injuries bit into Pep Guardiola’s squad. Alleyne did not just make up the numbers. He clocked seven appearances under Guardiola, including both legs of the EFL Cup semi-final against Newcastle United and a Champions League outing against Bodo/Glimt, gaining a taste of high-stakes football at the very top level.

Now the next chapter lands at Turf Moor. Burnley, still stung by relegation from the Premier League last term, are rebuilding with players who can both dominate the Championship and grow back into the top flight. Alleyne fits that brief.

"I'm super excited, I can't wait to get going," he told the club’s website after completing the move. "I had my first training session today and I've really enjoyed it so far, meeting the manager and my teammates.

"I first heard of the interest a couple of months ago now and I'm so glad it got done. It's a huge team, a Premier League team to be honest and I'm so buzzing to be here."

Burnley see themselves as a club merely passing through the second tier. Alleyne has arrived to make sure that stay is as short as possible.
