Burton Albion Sign Winger Caylan Vickers from Brighton

Burton Albion have moved to sharpen their attacking edge with the signing of winger Caylan Vickers from Premier League side Brighton for an undisclosed fee.

The 21-year-old has penned a two-year deal at the Pirelli Stadium, with the Brewers holding an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months. It’s a commitment that underlines how firmly Burton see him fitting into their plans rather than simply filling out the squad.

Vickers arrives with League One miles already on the clock. Last season he took in loan spells at Barnsley and Wigan Athletic, learning the division’s tempo, its physical demands and its tight margins. Burton are not gambling on an untested youngster; they are backing a player who already knows the terrain he is walking into.

His pathway has not been straightforward. Vickers came through at Reading, breaking into the professional ranks before earning a move to Brighton. He never made a first-team appearance for the Seagulls, blocked by Premier League depth and competition, but the south coast club clearly rated his potential enough to send him out for senior football rather than leave him in the shadows.

Now Burton want to be the club where that potential turns into consistent end product.

"He's an attacking player who will excite our supporters whilst adding goals and assists to the team," said head coach Gary Bowyer. The message is clear: this is not a developmental project to be eased in gently. "Having played at this level already, he arrives ready to contribute and we look forward to seeing how he continues to develop with us."

For a Burton side always looking for an extra spark in the final third, Vickers’ direct running and eye for goal will be expected to make a difference quickly. The test of that ambition may come sooner rather than later.
