With the new European football season underway, focus shifts to the Champions League 2026/27 campaign as the continent's top clubs prepare for battle. Paris Saint-Germain enter as defending champions, aiming for an unprecedented third consecutive title. Several big names, including PSG, have secured their places early, while others fought through qualifiers to claim final spots.

Teams like Real Madrid, managed by José Mourinho, want to reclaim European glory after a trophy drought. Arsenal also look ready to make a deep run after last season’s runner-up finish, adding excitement to this competitive tournament.

Draw Date and Venue

  • Date: August 27, 2026
  • Time: 5pm BST / 12 noon ET
  • Location: Grimaldi Forum, Monaco

The draw for the league phase will be held at Monaco’s Grimaldi Forum. Reshmin Chowdhury will host, joined by UEFA officials Giorgio Marchetti and Pedro Pinto. UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin is expected to speak during the event.

Seedings and Pots

Thirty-six teams are split into four pots based on their five-year UEFA club coefficient rankings. The reigning champions, PSG, automatically go into Pot 1.

  • Pot 1: PSG (France), Bayern Munich (Germany), Real Madrid (Spain), Liverpool (England), Inter Milan (Italy), Manchester City (England), Arsenal (England), Barcelona (Spain), Atlético Madrid (Spain)
  • Pot 2: Borussia Dortmund (Germany), Roma (Italy), Sporting (Portugal), Aston Villa (England), Porto (Portugal), Manchester United (England), Club Brugge (Belgium), Real Betis (Spain), PSV Eindhoven (Netherlands)
  • Pot 3: Feyenoord (Netherlands), Lille (France), Bodo/Glimt (Norway), Napoli (Italy), RB Leipzig (Germany), Villarreal (Spain), Shakhtar Donetsk (Ukraine), Galatasaray (Turkey), Fenerbahçe (Turkey)
  • Pot 4: Slavia Prague (Czech Republic), VfB Stuttgart (Germany), LASK (Austria), Como (Italy), Lens (France), Sabah (Azerbaijan), Slovan Bratislava (Slovakia), AEK Athens (Greece), Viking (Norway)

Each team from Pot 1 will face two clubs from each of the other pots, playing one match at home and one away. Clubs from the same country cannot face each other in this phase, and no club can meet more than two teams from the same association. A new UEFA rule prevents the same two teams from playing at the same venue three seasons in a row.
