Chelsea 2026/27 Squad Numbers Announced

Chelsea have locked in their squad numbers for the 2026/27 season – and the list comes with a few bold statements.

The headline change sits on the back of the centre-forward. Joao Pedro has stepped into the number 9 shirt, vacating 20 and inheriting the number that has weighed heavily on several Chelsea strikers in recent years. Liam Delap, who wore 9 last season, slides across to 12.

At the back, there is a reshuffle with clear symbolism. Wesley Fofana takes over the number 3 shirt, left free after Marc Cucurella’s move to Real Madrid, while summer signing Pep Chavarria picks up 29, the number Fofana leaves behind. Tosin Adarabioyo moves away from the low digits, trading 4 for 38, with new arrival Valentin Barco stepping straight into that number 4 jersey.

Chelsea’s recruitment drive has not been shy about handing out prestige numbers. Marco Palestra claims 2, Maxence Lacroix takes 5 – the shirt Benoit Badiashile wore previously – underlining their expected importance in Xabi Alonso’s plans.

The flip side is harsh. Badiashile, Axel Disasi and Marc Guiu, all absent from pre-season, have not been given squad numbers at all, a clear indication of where they currently stand.

In midfield, Dario Essugo has shifted from 14 to 16, making way for Jordan Henderson, who arrives and immediately takes 14. Club-record signing Morgan Rogers will wear 17, the number Andrey Santos left behind when he joined Manchester United.

The academy continues to feed into the picture. Reggie Watson, Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli and Tayo Subuloye have all been handed first-team numbers – 31, 32 and 37 respectively – after impressive showings on the pre-season tour in Australia and Asia. Their exact status is still not formally confirmed, but the numbers hint at opportunities to come under Alonso if they maintain that level.
