Chelsea Sets Deadline for Enzo Fernandez Amid City Transfer Activity

The clock is already ticking on one of the window’s biggest sagas. Chelsea have told Manchester City they have until 5pm today to put their money where their interest is over Enzo Fernandez – and it will take the full £120m.

City had hoped to haggle. Chelsea, still bristling from Enzo Maresca’s departure and the £17m compensation City were forced to pay, are in no mood to negotiate. The message from Stamford Bridge is blunt: pay the price or walk away.

That ultimatum lands at a delicate moment for the champions. Barcelona are pressing hard for Rodri and, according to reports, have already seen a second offer of £55m turned down. City value their World Cup winner far higher, yet the fact talks are ongoing tells its own story. Their midfield is being torn up and rebuilt in real time.

Part of that overhaul is Tijjani Reijnders. Just a year after arriving from AC Milan for £46.5m, he is heading for the exit. City have agreed a £51m deal with Saudi Pro League side Al Qadsiah, with the Dutchman accepting personal terms. His sale, combined with Nathan Ake’s move to Fenerbahce and James Trafford’s switch to Leeds, pushes City’s incoming fees this summer towards the £100m mark.

They are not just cashing in. Lille’s Ayyoub Bouaddi, one of the breakout stars of the World Cup, is firmly on their radar, with City understood to be in pole position for the teenager. At the same time, another young winger is edging closer to the door.

Savinho to Spurs gathers pace

Tottenham, deep into their own rebuild under Roberto De Zerbi, are closing on a £65m deal for Savinho. Signed by City from Troyes for a little over £30m in 2024, the 22-year-old Brazilian now looks set to become one of the headline moves of Spurs’ summer.

Talks are described as “moving in the right direction”, with an agreement for £65m plus add-ons close. For a club already having a frantic window – Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, Jan Paul van Hecke, Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Martin Dubravka and Cole Ramsey have all arrived – Savinho would be another statement that Tottenham intend to attack the top end of the Premier League again. Only Chelsea have spent more so far.

Arsenal weigh Martinelli exit as Osimhen name enters frame

Across north London, Arsenal’s business is far from done. Mikel Arteta has already added winger Christos Tzolis, but the bigger noise surrounds Gabriel Martinelli.

Galatasaray have tabled a £38.5m bid for the Brazilian, who has become one of the Turkish champions’ top targets. Journalist reports in Germany say the 25-year-old is at the top of their list as they push to add a marquee wide forward.

The talks have taken an intriguing twist. The availability of Victor Osimhen has been raised in discussions between Arsenal and Galatasaray. The Telegraph reports that the two clubs have spoken about the striker, though it remains unclear whether Arsenal are driving that conversation or whether Osimhen has been offered to them as part of a potential package.

One scenario on the table would see Osimhen included in a deal that sends Martinelli to Istanbul with a reduced fee heading to Arsenal. For a club openly in the market for a new attacker, it is the kind of proposal that forces serious internal debate.

Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola also feature on Arsenal’s list. Whether they go for a wide forward, a central striker, or both, will define the final shape of Arteta’s front line.

Liverpool bide their time on Barcola

Barcola is at the heart of another major storyline. Liverpool have made the 23-year-old France international their leading attacking target and are in talks with PSG over a deal. The European champions, though, are playing hardball, demanding around £145m.

Liverpool are prepared to wait. GiveMeSport’s Ben Jacobs reports that if PSG bring in one or more new attackers, the expectation at Anfield is that the French club will soften their stance and drop the price below €170m. Liverpool have effectively cooled their interest in another PSG forward, Ibrahim Mbaye, with the double outlay deemed too steep.

PSG have already moved in midfield, paying €50m to sign Maghnes Akliouche from Monaco. But they want a winger or striker through the door before they even consider reducing Barcola’s fee. That gives Liverpool a clear calculation: hold their nerve, or look elsewhere.

Arsenal lurk in the background, monitoring the situation and capable of entering the race if they decide Barcola is worth a huge outlay.

PSG keep cards close to chest

Publicly, PSG are saying little. Head coach Luis Enrique, speaking ahead of Wednesday’s Super Cup clash with Aston Villa in Salzburg, refused to be drawn on Barcola’s future.

“I don’t know and I don’t want to speak about any player individually,” he said when asked about the winger, who scored three times for France at the World Cup and only returned to PSG training last Monday with the other French and Spanish internationals. “Because it’s always dangerous when you are asking something positive or negative about a player. I stay focused on my team.”

Barcola is in contention to feature against Villa, even as his name dominates the rumour mill. PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi has not ruled out a sale either, insisting only that the club are “working calmly” and that “today, he is a PSG player”.

Romero set for Atletico as Spurs keep reshaping

Away from the Premier League’s headline chasers, another significant defensive move is brewing. Atletico Madrid have agreed a deal in principle with Tottenham for Cristian Romero, in a package worth around £34.2m plus add-ons. A 15 per cent sell-on clause is expected to be included.

Inter Milan had also shown interest in the Argentina international but have switched focus to a deal for Djed Spence. For Spurs, Romero’s departure would mark another major shift in De Zerbi’s back line after the arrivals of Senesi and Van Hecke.

The day is only just getting started. Chelsea’s deadline over Enzo, City’s stance on Rodri, Arsenal’s flirtation with a reshaped attack and Liverpool’s slow play on Barcola all point in one direction: this window still has the power to twist the title race before a ball has even been kicked.
