Chelsea Pursue Eduardo Camavinga After Scott Bid Rejected

Chelsea’s search for a new midfielder has taken a sharp turn towards Madrid and Eduardo Camavinga, with the club weighing up a late move for the France international after being shut down by Bournemouth over Alex Scott, according to talkSPORT.

Three bids went in for Scott. Three were rejected. Bournemouth have made it clear: their 23-year-old playmaker is going nowhere before the deadline. Chelsea’s final offer reportedly climbed to around £68 million, but the Cherries held their line and forced Xabi Alonso and the recruitment team to look elsewhere.

The focus has now swung to Camavinga, whose future at the Santiago Bernabeu has come under fresh scrutiny since Jose Mourinho took charge of Real Madrid. The Frenchman has been regularly linked with a move away, and Chelsea are the latest heavyweight to circle. Manchester United had previously explored a deal before turning to Carlos Baleba from Brighton.

Alonso’s urgency is driven by the uncertainty surrounding Enzo Fernandez. The 25-year-old made it clear early in the summer that he wanted out of Stamford Bridge, pushing hard for a dream move to Real Madrid. That transfer collapsed, but the story hasn’t gone away.

Fernandez still has a week to secure an exit, and the queue for him is not short. Manchester City, led by former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, are keen to bring him to the Etihad. Maresca needs a new reference point in midfield after Ballon d'Or winner Rodri left for Barcelona in a £65m deal, ripping out the heart of City’s engine room.

City are pressing ahead with a big-money rebuild in that area. They are preparing to spend £86m on Morocco international Ayyoub Bouaddi, yet remain firmly interested in Fernandez as well. The message from west London, though, is uncompromising: Chelsea are not actively trying to sell and have slapped a £120m valuation on the World Cup winner, informing all suitors that it will take a staggering fee to even start a conversation.

Behind that public stance, the club are working through contingency plans. Camavinga sits high on a growing shortlist, but he is not the only name. Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, one of last season’s standout young midfielders in the Premier League, is being closely tracked. So is Roma’s Manu Kone, who has drawn attention with his performances in Serie A.

For now, Fernandez remains central to Alonso’s immediate plans rather than his spreadsheets. The Argentine came off the bench in Chelsea’s Premier League opener on Monday night, playing his part as the Blues edged a breathless 3-2 derby win over Fulham. Joao Pedro, Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer all scored to hand Alonso a dramatic and morale-boosting victory in his first league game in charge.

That win buys a little breathing space, but not much. The schedule is relentless and the market unforgiving.

Chelsea briefly step away from league duty for cup business next. They travel to face League One side Luton Town in the EFL Cup on Thursday, a tie that could offer Alonso the chance to rotate and perhaps give minutes to those whose futures are being debated in back rooms.

Then comes Brighton on Sunday in the Premier League, another test of the new manager’s early blueprint.

By then, the question will only grow louder: will Alonso be sending out a midfield built around Fernandez, or scrambling to bed in a new anchor like Camavinga as the clock ticks down on the window?
