Chelsea Sell Striker Marc Guiu to RB Leipzig

Chelsea have agreed to sell striker Marc Guiu to RB Leipzig, clearing the way for the young Spaniard to leave Stamford Bridge after just one season.

The 20-year-old is expected to complete a permanent move to the Bundesliga club, though sources in Germany insist some details still need to be finalised before the deal is officially done. The fee remains under wraps, but Guiu has been valued at around £25m.

It marks a swift turnaround for a player Chelsea picked up from Barcelona in 2024 for about £5m, prising him away from his boyhood club in a move that was billed as one for the future rather than an instant fix.

That future will now unfold in Germany.

Guiu’s Chelsea career never fully caught fire. He made 29 appearances for the club, scoring eight goals, six of which came in the 2024-25 Conference League campaign as Chelsea went on to lift the trophy. On European nights, he looked at home. In the Premier League, opportunities were far harder to come by.

A short loan spell at Sunderland last season did little to shift the picture. Guiu featured just three times for the Championship side before returning to London, his path to regular minutes still blocked.

The writing has been on the wall this summer. Guiu trained away from the main first-team group, a clear signal from Chelsea that they were preparing for life without him while his representatives explored options elsewhere. Leipzig, with their track record of developing young forwards, moved to the front of the queue.

While Guiu edges towards the exit, Chelsea have made another quiet but telling move in their loan department.

Midfielder Kendry Paez has been recalled from an unsuccessful stint at River Plate, his time in Argentina cut short to free up an overseas loan slot. The Ecuadorian teenager is now expected to head out again, this time likely to a club in England, as Chelsea continue to juggle development plans with squad limits.

One young talent heading to the Bundesliga, another searching for the right platform. Chelsea’s rebuild keeps moving, and so do the prospects trying to keep pace with it.
