Cody Gakpo Wants Out of Liverpool for Tottenham Move
Cody Gakpo has informed Liverpool he wants out – and his preferred destination is clear. He wants to join Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham Hotspur project.
The Dutch forward’s camp has already shaken hands, in principle, on personal terms with Spurs. The next step has been taken: direct talks with Liverpool’s hierarchy to spell out the player’s stance. Gakpo no longer sees his long-term future at Anfield and is pushing for the chance to move to north London.
Gakpo squeezed out at Liverpool
At 27, Gakpo can see the writing on the wall. Competition for attacking spots at Liverpool is fierce and only getting tougher. On the left, Rio Ngumoha has moved ahead of him in the pecking order. Through the middle, Alexander Isak leads the line, with Hugo Ekitike still to return to full fitness and add another body to the mix.
The message is obvious: minutes will be harder to come by. That reality has driven Gakpo towards a new challenge, one where he feels central rather than peripheral.
De Zerbi’s pitch lands
De Zerbi has not been passive in this. TEAMtalk understands the Tottenham head coach has made it abundantly clear to Gakpo’s representatives how central he could be to his plans.
The conversations have hit the mark. Gakpo is said to be hugely impressed by what he has heard from De Zerbi and views the chance to play a major role in this emerging Spurs side as a major pull. This is not a squad-filler move in his eyes; it is a headline role.
Tottenham’s interest runs deeper than just one name. They remain keen on Manchester City winger Savinho and believe they can bring in both Savinho and Gakpo as they reshape their forward line.
One key attraction for Spurs is Gakpo’s versatility. They see him as someone who can operate off the left but also through the middle, giving De Zerbi another flexible piece across the front three.
Liverpool hold firm – but door creaks open
Liverpool, for now, are not rolling over. The Reds are standing firm on their valuation and, according to TEAMtalk, want more than £60 million before they will even consider letting Gakpo leave.
The twist? Sources indicate Tottenham are ready to meet that asking price with their upcoming bid. That willingness has dramatically increased the likelihood of a deal getting done.
Behind the scenes, Liverpool are already working on their next move. They are advancing in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola, and progress there is strengthening the belief that Gakpo’s exit could ultimately be signed off.
If Spurs put the money on the table and Liverpool land Barcola, Gakpo’s desire for a starring role under De Zerbi may soon get its stage.
