Colchester United Sign Moses Sesay on Loan
Colchester United have moved to sharpen their midfield by bringing in Southampton youngster Moses Sesay on a season-long loan.
The 19-year-old, who swapped Chelsea for the Saints academy last year, arrives with a growing reputation and England Under-18 experience, but without a league appearance to his name yet. His only senior outing for Southampton so far came as a substitute in last season’s EFL Cup.
That lack of league mileage has not deterred Danny Cowley. If anything, it seems to excite him.
“Moses is a very gifted player with the ball. He can really speed up the game,” the U’s boss told BBC Essex, underlining exactly why Colchester have moved for him as they look to inject more tempo and technical quality into their midfield.
Cowley is under no illusions about the step Sesay is taking. This is the teenager’s first loan, his first real exposure to the weekly grind of senior football.
“He’s been involved with England. It’s his first loan, so he’s going to need time to adapt, but he’s got some really good attributes. We’re looking forward to working with him,” Cowley added.
For Sesay, the path is clear: turn academy promise into first-team impact. For Colchester, the bet is just as simple – that a hungry, ball-playing midfielder from a Premier League set-up can change the rhythm of their season.
