Costantino Favasuli Joins Napoli on Loan

Costantino Favasuli has taken the first concrete step towards becoming a Napoli player, arriving at Rome’s Villa Stuart on Monday morning to undergo his medical ahead of a move from Catanzaro.

The 22-year-old full-back is set to join on an initial season-long loan from the Serie B club. Napoli will pay €1 million for the temporary deal, which includes an obligation to buy worth around €6 million.

A small group of Napoli supporters greeted Favasuli outside the clinic, a sign of the curiosity and expectation around a defender widely viewed as one of the brightest young left-backs in Italian football.

Favasuli’s numbers last season underline why a Champions League-chasing club has moved for him. He scored two goals and delivered seven assists in 36 appearances, playing a key role in Catanzaro’s run to the Serie B play-off final.

Though primarily used on the right side of defence, his versatility allows him to operate on the left flank as well, a trait that fits neatly with Napoli’s preference for fluid, attack-minded full-backs.

His rise has not gone unnoticed at national-team level either. In June, Favasuli made his senior Italy debut under caretaker coach Silvio Baldini, featuring in both friendlies against Greece and Luxembourg.

Now, with the medical tests underway and the framework of the deal in place, Napoli are closing in on adding another young, dynamic option to their back line.
