Cristiano Ronaldo Vows to Reveal Truth After Leaving Portugal Squad Amid Conflict
Cristiano Ronaldo Breaks Silence on Portugal Departure
Cristiano Ronaldo has publicly addressed his unexpected exit from the Portugal national team camp, promising to share the full story behind the decision. This announcement follows a tense disagreement with head coach Jorge Jesus during the ongoing international break.
Official Statement from Ronaldo
As reported by Marca, Ronaldo confirmed his withdrawal from the squad through a social media message after the manager's press conference and emergency discussions involving the Portuguese Football Federation.
- Ronaldo said: "Following the national team manager's press conference, and after a conversation with the President of the Portuguese Football Federation, I have decided to leave the national team camp."
The departure came just before a key UEFA Nations League match against Denmark.
Commitment to Reveal Full Details
The tension between player and coach escalated after Ronaldo was benched during Portugal’s 2-1 win over Norway. Despite warming up in the second half, he did not get game time and left directly after the match.
- Ronaldo added: "In due course, I will tell all Portuguese people the truth about the reasons that led to my departure from the national team, to which I have always been fully committed. For now, it is time to wish Portugal and all my teammates, without exception, the very best of luck."
Conflict Over Playing Time
The core of the dispute relates to playing opportunities and communication. Jesus chose to start Joao Felix and Goncalo Ramos as forwards against Norway, both scoring goals. Ronaldo stayed on the bench throughout despite preparing to enter.
- Jesus commented: "I told the player he wasn’t going to play. If I need you for 30 minutes, you’ll play; if not, you won’t. No player will make me change my mind."
What Lies Ahead for Ronaldo?
After leaving Copenhagen on his private jet bound for Madrid, Ronaldo’s future with the national team remains uncertain. It is unclear whether this marks a permanent retirement from international football or just a temporary step back while Jesus remains coach.
