Danilo Plans Farewell Year at Flamengo in 2027

Danilo has set a date for his farewell and a stage for his last dance: 2027, at Flamengo.

Speaking at Ninho do Urubu, the veteran defender laid out, with unusual clarity, how the end of his career is being planned. The last few years, he admitted, left him little room to think about anything beyond the next game, the next flight, the next training session.

“In 2026, I had very little time to reflect and assess; there was a World Cup in between, and at 35 years old, I had to dedicate myself immensely physically to measure up and be well prepared,” he said.

The calendar swallowed him whole. Only now, with international duty easing and the horizon finally visible, has he been able to sit down and talk seriously about what comes next.

Those talks with Flamengo are already underway. And they are going well.

“Now is when I've had more peace of mind to think about it. Flamengo and I have been talking, and I hope 2027 is the year we can be together so I can play the final year of my career.”

No drama, no stand-off. The former Real Madrid and Manchester City full-back made it clear that renewal discussions have moved forward smoothly, with no sign of friction on either side. The tone is collaborative, almost nostalgic, as both club and player sketch out what would be a carefully choreographed goodbye.

“We have spoken very calmly,” Danilo explained. “Both sides share the desire to move forward, to put together another beautiful year, and a year where I can truly say ‘this is the last year of my career’ and finish at the club of my heart, in a project I believed in and that has been working.”

This is not just about one more contract. It is about closing a circle. Flamengo is the club he grew up loving, the place he wants his story to end. The ambition is clear: a final season, a final push, and something tangible to show for it.

“I don't think there are any obstacles preventing this from happening,” he insisted. “And hopefully in 2027 we can be together, finish my career at Flamengo, and, God willing, win a major trophy – that would be wonderful.”
