Danilo's Final Season at Flamengo: A Peaceful Farewell

Danilo has his finish line in sight – and he wants it painted red and black.

The veteran defender, now 35, admitted his focus had been consumed by international duty before he could properly sit down with Flamengo to discuss the final contract of his career. Only now, he says, has he finally had the headspace to plan how it all ends.

Speaking at the Ninho do Urubu training ground, Danilo reflected on the demands of recent years and how the World Cup cycle left little room for long-term decisions.

“In 2026, I had very little time to reflect and assess; there was a World Cup in between, and at 35 years old, I had to dedicate myself immensely physically to measure up and be well prepared,” he said.

That grind is easing. The conversations have started. And they’re heading in one clear direction: 2027, Flamengo, and a farewell season.

“Now is when I've had more peace of mind to think about it. Flamengo and I have been talking, and I hope 2027 is the year we can be together so I can play the final year of my career.”

A former stalwart of Real Madrid and Manchester City, Danilo made it clear the negotiations are not a battlefield. No stand-offs, no drama. Just a shared will to close the circle in the right place.

He described the talks as calm, constructive and free of friction, underlining that both sides want the same outcome.

“We have spoken very calmly. Both sides share the desire to move forward, to put together another beautiful year, and a year where I can truly say ‘this is the last year of my career’ and finish at the club of my heart, in a project I believed in and that has been working.”

For Danilo, this is not just about a contract. It is about returning to his roots, putting a full stop where the story once began, and doing it in a team he feels is on the right track.

“I don't think there are any obstacles preventing this from happening,” he insisted, before casting his eyes towards the one thing that could make that final chapter unforgettable.

“Hopefully in 2027 we can be together, finish my career at Flamengo, and, God willing, win a major trophy – that would be wonderful.”

One last year. One last push for silverware. If Flamengo and Danilo get their way, his career won’t just end at home – it will end with a celebration.
