David Alaba's Career Continues: Father Confirms Interest from Clubs

David Alaba is between clubs, but not, his father insists, between careers.

George Alaba, father and adviser to the former Bayern Munich and Real Madrid star, has made it clear his son will not be short of options. Speaking to Kronen Zeitung, he painted the picture of a player still very much in demand.

“There have been numerous enquiries. In the USA, in Europe, everywhere,” he said, brushing aside any talk that the defender’s time at the top is done. “It will continue, I know that. He will carry on.”

Real Madrid chose not to extend Alaba’s contract beyond the summer after a series of injuries disrupted his time in Spain. At 34, he is now a free agent, able to join any club without a transfer fee. That alone makes him an intriguing proposition for teams searching for experience, versatility and a proven winner.

Interest is already circling. Bundesliga side Union Berlin have been loosely linked, while reports have also connected the Austrian with Mexican giants Club America and a romantic return to his boyhood club Austria Vienna. None of those options is concrete yet, but the market around him is clearly alive.

A decision, though, is not far away. “He will announce soon what happens next. He is doing excellently,” George Alaba revealed. On the possibility of Austria Vienna, he added a note of caution alongside the mutual affection: “David has had calls. They want to, he wants to as well, but at the moment it is a little too early for him. He still has a lot he wants to do in football.”

That last line matters. It hints at a player who does not see this as a farewell tour, but as another chapter.

A Career Built at the Very Top

Alaba’s CV backs that up.

Between 2008 and 2021, he belonged to Bayern Munich, aside from a one-year loan at TSG Hoffenheim. In Munich he grew from teenage prospect into one of the most complete defenders in Europe, capable at left-back, centre-back and in midfield.

The numbers tell their own story: 431 competitive appearances for Bayern, 33 goals, 55 assists. Two Champions League titles and a haul of domestic trophies that defined an era at the Allianz Arena.

From there came the move to Real Madrid. Injuries increasingly interrupted his rhythm in Spain, especially towards the end of his stay, but even with a reduced role he still added two more Champions League triumphs to his collection with Los Blancos.

His last competitive club appearance came in May, in Real’s 4-2 win over Athletic Club. He also featured for Austria at the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico, underlining that he remains part of the national team’s core.

Now he waits, fit and available, with his father talking up the next move and clubs from Europe to North America weighing up the chance to sign a serial winner for nothing.

The only question left is not whether David Alaba will return — his camp sounds certain of that — but which badge he will be wearing when he does.
