Derby County Sign Alex Mowatt from West Bromwich Albion

Derby County have landed midfielder Alex Mowatt from West Bromwich Albion on a two-year deal, prising him away from a Championship rival just days after their first approach was knocked back.

The fee remains undisclosed, but the timing tells its own story. Derby went back in after their initial bid was rejected and this time West Brom said yes, ending Mowatt’s three-year stay at The Hawthorns.

The 31-year-old, who previously shone for Leeds United and Barnsley, had only 12 months left on his contract with the Baggies, having joined them in the summer of 2021.

He signed off his West Brom career last week, making what proved to be his 170th and final appearance for the club in their Carabao Cup first-round win against Rotherham.

Now he swaps navy and white for black and white, and drops straight into a Derby midfield that suddenly looks a little more seasoned, a little more streetwise, for the battles ahead in the Championship.
