Deschamps Questions Officiating After Semi-Final Exit

Didier Deschamps expressed frustration with referee Ivan Barton following France's 2-0 defeat against Spain in the 2026 World Cup semi-final held at AT&T Stadium. The French coach was particularly upset about a penalty decision early in the game that shifted momentum towards Spain.

In the 22nd minute, Mikel Oyarzabal scored from the penalty spot after Lamine Yamal was ruled to have been fouled by Lucas Digne. Aside from refereeing concerns, Deschamps acknowledged that France was outplayed in many areas. I’m not going to condemn everything we did or erase what we’ve accomplished. But in a match like this, against a team like Spain, you have to be at your absolute maximum. France wasn’t at that level tonight."

Mbappe Criticizes Tactical Setup

Team captain Kylian Mbappe was visibly disappointed with the team's tactical approach. The Real Madrid forward highlighted how Spain’s midfield controlled the pace of the game, suggesting the French side failed to disrupt La Roja’s playmakers effectively.
