Djed Spence Joins Inter Milan from Tottenham
Inter Milan have sealed the signing of England full-back Djed Spence from Tottenham, completing a move that hands the Serie A champions another high‑profile addition on the flanks.
The 26-year-old has signed a five-year contract at San Siro, with Inter understood to be paying around 30m euros (£25.6m) for the defender. It continues a bold summer rebuild from the Italian champions and makes Spence the second England international to arrive in Milan after John Stones joined on a free following the end of his Manchester City deal.
Farewell to Spurs, eyes on Italy
Spence all but waved goodbye to Tottenham before the deal was confirmed. On Saturday, he posted an emotional message to Spurs supporters across his social media channels, signalling that the move was only a matter of time.
“A special chapter comes to an end, It's been some journey, with plenty of memories, moments and experiences that I'll carry with me for forever, especially that night in Bilbao.
“Thanks to all the staff members who've helped me along the way, the players who've become family and most importantly thank you to the fans. Time for a new chapter now, but Spurs will always have a place in my heart."
Those words closed a significant spell in north London. Spence joined Tottenham from Middlesbrough in 2022 for an initial £12.5m and went on to make 85 appearances for the club. His time there peaked with European glory, as he helped Spurs win the 2024-25 Europa League title.
From World Cup stage to Serie A champions
Spence arrives in Milan on the back of a major international campaign. He featured in all eight of England’s matches at the World Cup, a tournament in which Thomas Tuchel’s side finished third. That run underlined his durability and importance at the highest level, and Inter have moved quickly to capitalise.
At club level, he remained a key figure for Tottenham last season. The full-back played 44 times in all competitions in the 2025-26 campaign, an ever-present option down the right.
But the landscape shifted. First-choice right-back Pedro Porro signed a new deal in June, tightening his grip on the position. On the opposite flank, Andy Robertson arrived from Liverpool, adding further weight to the competition for minutes in Roberto de Zerbi’s defence.
The Tottenham manager had publicly stated in July that he wanted to convince Spence to stay. The club’s squad evolution, and Inter’s determination to secure him, have ultimately pulled the defender in another direction.
A return to familiar ground
This will not be Spence’s first taste of Italian football. He spent six months on loan at Genoa in 2024, a short stint that now looks like a dress rehearsal for a much grander stage.
Now he returns to Italy not as a loanee fighting for a foothold, but as a signed-and-sealed reinforcement for the champions, locked in on a five-year deal and stepping into a side that expects to compete deep into every competition.
Inter wanted power and pedigree at full-back. In Spence, fresh from a World Cup run and a European trophy with Spurs, they believe they’ve found both.
