Djed Spence Set for Move to Inter Milan
Djed Spence’s future is edging away from north London – and towards the San Siro.
The Tottenham full-back, once tipped as a potential fit for Arsenal, is now firmly locked on a move to Inter Milan, with the Italian giants pushing ahead in talks and the player understood to be keen on the switch.
“Now he would be a player of interest. If it’d be Liverpool then I’d want big money for him. I would want a lot of money for him. They took the boy Joe Gomez, who was a South London boy, but Spence is a better player than him.”
Arsenal, though, are not circling. Mikel Arteta’s side have not seriously explored reinforcements in the wide defensive areas this summer, and there has been no sign of a concrete move for Spence from the Emirates.
Inter, by contrast, have stepped directly into the conversation. The Serie A champions have opened club-to-club negotiations with Tottenham, with recent reports in Italy suggesting the gap in valuation is finally narrowing after weeks of distance between the two sides.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter are closing in on an agreement for around €30million (£25m) plus bonuses. That figure sits below the fee Spurs were initially thought to be demanding for the Englishman, but the player’s desire to join Inter appears to be softening Tottenham’s stance.
The pressure of that preference matters. When a player makes his choice clear, clubs often follow.
Any late twist that sends Spence elsewhere would be a surprise at this stage. A dramatic swoop from Arsenal, or any other club, cannot be completely ruled out if the market suddenly shifts, but all current signs point in one direction.
If Djed Spence is on the move, it looks far more likely to be to Milan than across north London.
