Driouech's Rangers Move Falls Apart—PSV Faces Fourth Transfer Blow

Couhaib Driouech’s switch to Rangers has fallen apart at the final hurdle, sending the winger back to PSV and leaving both clubs frustrated after days of talks in Glasgow.

The 24-year-old had already travelled to Scotland to complete the deal, with PSV braced to bank up to €8 million. Instead, the Dutch club now walk away empty-handed and with another failed transfer on their books.

Exactly where negotiations broke down has not yet been made clear, but the outcome is: Driouech returns to Eindhoven and the deal is off.

For PSV, it is becoming an uncomfortable pattern. Driouech is the fourth collapsed transfer in five months, following aborted moves involving Ricardo Pepi, Adamo Nagalo and Armando Obispo. Each time, a deal seemed close. Each time, it slipped away.

The situation is hardly ideal for the player either. Driouech has already missed the start of the season through injury and, as things stand, is not expected to play a major role for PSV in the short term. While he has been sidelined, the internal hierarchy has shifted.

Academy talent Amir Bouhamdi has jumped ahead of him in the pecking order and is set to sign a new contract at the Philips Stadion, underlining PSV’s faith in their homegrown option.

So Driouech comes back to Eindhoven with a move collapsed, his status uncertain, and competition for minutes growing.

PSV, meanwhile, must quickly park the transfer frustration. They travel to Excelsior on Saturday evening, kicking off at 20:00, still chasing their first win after being held to a 2-2 draw by Fortuna Sittard last weekend.
