Enes Ünal Leaves Bournemouth for Getafe Return

Enes Ünal’s Premier League chapter is over. The Turkey striker has left Bournemouth and returned to familiar ground at Getafe, departing the south coast on a free transfer.

The deal includes up to £1.3m in potential bonuses and a 20% sell-on clause, protection for a club that invested around £13m to make his move permanent only last year.

Ünal’s time in England never really caught fire. Injuries clipped his rhythm and restricted his impact, leaving him with 58 appearances and just five goals for the Cherries. For a forward who once carried Getafe’s attack in La Liga, it was a frustrating spell.

He first arrived at Bournemouth on loan from Getafe in January 2024, a mid-season gamble on his recovery and pedigree. The club liked enough of what they saw to commit to a permanent deal later that year. The body, though, never quite kept pace with the ambition.

Inside the dressing room, it was a different story. Bournemouth described him as “a popular figure within the squad” and praised the “positive contribution both on and off the pitch” in their farewell statement. The club added that they “would like to thank Enes for his efforts during his time with the club and wish him every success for the future.”

This is also a financial decision. Bournemouth have been keen to trim a growing wage bill as they close in on the end of their summer transfer business, and Ünal’s exit is part of that reset.

The reshaping is not done. The club are now working on a move that would see full-back Max Aarons leave, another sign that Bournemouth’s squad will look noticeably different by the time the new season settles into gear.
