Estevao Addresses Chelsea Selection Questions: Focus on Self

Estevao stood in front of the microphones with all the obvious questions hanging in the air. New club, new manager, fierce competition at Chelsea, and a fanbase already debating every team sheet from Stamford Bridge. He could easily have taken the bait.

He didn’t.

Speaking at a Selecao press conference, the young winger swerved any hint of controversy over his manager’s early selection calls and instead turned the spotlight firmly on himself and his own standards.

“I think every coach has their own way of playing. Of course, we work every day, I give my best every day, and that's what I do,” the former Palmeiras prodigy said, making it clear he has no interest in challenging the manager’s authority in public.

The battle for minutes in Chelsea’s forward line is brutal. Established names, big fees, big reputations. Estevao knows exactly what he has walked into, and he framed it not as a problem, but as a test.

“We have quality players at Chelsea, so what I do is focus on what I can control, I try to give my best in training, when I get an opportunity I try to give my best, it goes day after day,” he explained.

No talk of frustration. No complaints about roles or tactics. Just a steady drumbeat: train, wait, take your chance.

“I try to seize every opportunity I have, I try to control everything I can and I leave it in God's hands, and I trust myself a lot too,” he added.

For a teenager stepping into one of the most scrutinised dressing rooms in Europe, it was a glimpse of how he plans to survive: less noise, more work. The debate around Chelsea’s front line will rage on, but Estevao has nailed his colours to a simpler idea – when the door opens, he intends to be ready to sprint through it.
