Everton Pursue Folarin Balogun Transfer Amidst Beto Exit

Everton have dived into the final hours of the European transfer window with a bold move for Folarin Balogun, lighting up a tense market and potentially triggering a domino effect that stretches all the way to Mexico.

According to Fabrizio Romano and Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the Merseyside club have submitted a formal offer to Monaco for the United States international, who is open to a return to English football after his Arsenal past.

At 25, Balogun views a move back to the Premier League as the right next step. He has already given the green light on personal terms with Everton, and talks between the clubs have intensified as the clock ticks down. The forward is determined to reinsert himself into the English game and sees Goodison Park as the stage to do it.

Everton move fast as Beto exit looms

The urgency on Everton’s side is clear. Beto is on the verge of joining Fiorentina, and his departure is set to free up crucial financial room. The club’s hierarchy have wasted no time, sending an offer of around €18 million to Monaco in an attempt to secure Balogun as his replacement.

That figure, though, falls well short of Monaco’s valuation. The Ligue 1 club are holding out for close to €40 million to recoup the investment they made in the American striker. The gap is significant, the tension obvious, but both sides are still at the table, pushing to find common ground before the window slams shut.

On the pitch, Balogun has been a bystander at the start of this Ligue 1 season. He has yet to play an official minute, finishing his physical preparation after a summer spent with the USMNT at the World Cup, while his representatives and Monaco search for a top-level destination.

Balogun’s future is not just an Everton–Monaco story. It cuts straight through to Mexico.

Monaco need his departure to open up a non-EU squad slot. That space is already earmarked: it is the key to finalising the signing of Mexican midfielder Erik Lira from Cruz Azul. The two clubs have an agreement in place for Lira, but the deal cannot be completed until Monaco clear that foreign-player spot.

So Balogun’s move is more than a simple striker chase. It is the administrative trigger that would allow Monaco to register Lira and reshape their midfield.

Monaco feel protected in attack thanks to the emergence of young German forward Paris Brunner, which only sharpens their focus on moving Balogun on. The priority is clear: accelerate the American’s exit, unlock the squad place, and bring Lira in to strengthen the centre of the pitch.

Throughout the window, Balogun’s name has floated around several Premier League clubs. Tottenham, Aston Villa, and Newcastle all made noise at various points, testing the waters without committing fully.
