Fatih Tekke's Resignation Rejected After European Defeat

Fatih Tekke walked into the press room looking like a man who had just lived through the longest night of his career.

Trabzonspor’s European campaign had ended in humiliation, and the coach did not hide behind excuses. He didn’t even try.

“We had a very sad night, of course, and the reason is me and my team,” he said, his words heavy. “It was a sad night for our country and our society.”

In an official statement, the club said: “Our head coach, Fatih Tekke, decided to resign in the heat of the moment following the defeat against Ferencvaros. The Trabzonspor Board of Directors has rejected manager Fatih Tekke’s resignation. Fatih Tekke continues in his managerial duties and will take charge of the team for our upcoming league fixture against Amedspor.”

No search for a replacement. No interim coach. No drawn-out saga.

Tekke stays.

From European pain to domestic pressure

Now comes the hard part.

Trabzonspor must somehow park their continental heartbreak and switch straight into league mode. There is no soft landing: an away trip to Amedspor in the Turkish Super Lig on Monday, August 31, with the eyes of an angry fanbase fixed on them.

The players need lifting. The dressing room needs repairing. Tekke, still in charge and still under the microscope, has only days to drag the mood from despair to defiance before the international break freezes the narrative in place.

An emphatic league victory would not erase the European exit. But it would buy breathing space, calm the noise, and restore a measure of stability inside the club.

After a night when he tried to walk away, Fatih Tekke now has to prove why Trabzonspor were right to make him stay.
