Ferran Torres, the man who broke Argentina hearts in last month’s World Cup final, is on the move again – and back under a familiar coach.

Paris Saint-Germain have landed the Spain international from Barcelona in a deal worth a reported 50 million euros, tying the 26-year-old forward to the French champions until 2031. For a club obsessed with Champions League glory, this is a signing with a very specific profile: a big-game striker who has already decided a World Cup final in extra time.

“Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to announce it has secured the services of Ferran Torres. The Spanish World Cup-winning forward has signed with the Club until 2031,” read the statement from the Ligue 1 side, who have lifted Europe’s top prize twice.

The move reunites Torres with Luis Enrique. The PSG coach was the man who first trusted him at international level, handing him his Spain debut in a Nations League clash against Germany in 2020. Now, four years and a World Cup triumph later, coach and forward are back on the same side, this time in Paris and with the Champions League in their sights.

Torres leaves Barcelona with a heavy medal collection and a solid scoring record. Since arriving in the 2021/22 season, the former Valencia and Manchester City attacker has played 207 games for the Catalan giants, scoring 65 goals. He helped Barça to three La Liga titles and struck in the 2025 Copa del Rey final win over Real Madrid, underlining his knack for delivering on the biggest stages.

Nicknamed “The Shark” for his movement and penalty-box instincts, Torres added the most prestigious line to his CV in the World Cup final. Coming off the bench, he struck in extra time to end Argentina’s reign as world champions and etch his name into Spanish football history. He now boasts 65 caps for Spain, with his club career and international career seemingly peaking in sync.

Barcelona, who lose one of their most reliable forwards of recent seasons, signed off with a formal farewell. “The Club would like to express its gratitude to Ferran Torres for his commitment over the last four and a half seasons as a blaugrana and wishes him all the best for the next stage of his professional career,” the club said in a statement.

His arrival in Paris could trigger movement elsewhere. With another high-profile attacker added to PSG’s frontline, Liverpool’s long-standing interest in Bradley Barcola may suddenly have fresh oxygen. The 23-year-old winger lit up the World Cup for France and has been a prime target for the Premier League club.

Talks between Liverpool and PSG have dragged on for weeks, with the French champions holding firm on an asking price of around 150 million euros. That figure has been the major obstacle so far.
