Galatasaray Aims for Historic Fifth Straight Title in Super Lig

The Turkish Super Lig roars back to life on Friday night, and the champions are walking into history’s crosshairs.

Fenerbahce, last season’s runners-up, carry the weight of a drought that dates back to 2014. Twelve years without a league title for a club of that size feels like an eternity. Their answer has been simple: sign star power.

The Istanbul giants landed Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku from Napoli this week, a marquee arrival to spearhead their attack. He joins an eye-catching cast of summer signings that already includes English winger Mason Greenwood from Olympique Marseille and Netherlands defender Nathan Ake from Manchester City. It is a squad built not just to chase Galatasaray, but to overtake them.

Fenerbahce start away from home, travelling to Ankara to face Genclerbirligi on Saturday night. For a club this restless, anything short of a statement performance will feel underwhelming.

Across the city, Besiktas have been just as aggressive.

The Black Eagles have sharpened their frontline with the signing of Serbia international Dusan Vlahovic from Juventus, a centre-forward built for big stages and pressure moments. Belgian winger Leandro Trossard has also arrived from Arsenal, adding creativity and unpredictability on the flanks.

Salah’s arrival instantly alters the league’s global profile and injects serious firepower into Trabzonspor’s challenge. They begin away to Kasimpasa on Saturday at 7 pm (1600GMT), a fixture that suddenly carries a very different kind of spotlight.

New faces, old ambitions

Eighteen clubs will contest the 2026-27 campaign. Erzurumspor, Amedspor and Corum FK come up to join the elite, each with their own storyline.

Amedspor, listed on the opening weekend as Amed SF, will make their Super Lig debut, stepping into the top division for the first time in the club’s history. Erzurumspor return after a five-year absence, determined not to be a brief guest this time.
