Galatasaray Resumes Pursuit of Rafael Leao as Milan Adjusts Demands

Galatasaray have circled back to Rafael Leao, with multiple outlets in Italy and Turkiye reporting renewed, intensive talks with Milan for the Portuguese forward – though no formal bid has yet landed on the Rossoneri’s desk.

Milan’s stance, once rigid, has started to bend. The club had initially been looking for around €50m plus €10m in add-ons, but the market’s response has been underwhelming. No club has stepped up to meet that figure, and that lack of concrete offers has forced a reassessment of Leao’s price.

That shift has caught Galatasaray’s attention.

Their first big swing of the summer, a €45m offer for Gabriel Martinelli, was firmly rejected by Arsenal, who also made it clear the Brazilian had no intention of moving to Istanbul. With that door slammed shut, the Turkish champions have turned back to Leao as their marquee attacking target.

Reports from Sportitalia and Yagiz Sabuncuoglu describe talks between Galatasaray and Milan as “intensive”, with negotiations accelerating now that Milan are prepared to listen at lower numbers. The fee is understood to be dropping towards a package under €50m plus bonuses, a bracket that brings the Istanbul club back into the conversation.

They are not alone. Benfica and Fenerbahce have also sounded out Milan over Leao in recent weeks. None of those approaches, though, progressed to a written offer. The gap between what Milan wanted and what the suitors were willing to pay was simply too wide, and everyone knew it.

The dynamic has changed.

Leao and Milan had both expected that once his availability became clear, heavyweights from Europe’s top five leagues would move decisively. That wave of elite interest never arrived. No Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 or top-end Serie A giant has come close to testing Milan’s resolve.

All the while, the clock on his contract keeps ticking. Leao’s deal at San Siro runs until June 2028, but there is no appetite on the player’s side to extend. Inside the club, the message is just as stark: they are not planning for a renewal. That leaves Milan facing a familiar calculation — cash in while the market is still strong, or risk watching value erode with every passing window.

Right now, everything points to a sale this summer.

Galatasaray see an opening. Milan see a solution. The question is whether anyone will finally put the numbers in black and white and push this long-running saga from rumour into reality.
