Galatasaray Targets Bruno Fernandes with Ambitious Offer

Galatasaray are preparing an audacious double move to prise Bruno Fernandes away from Manchester United, testing both the player’s resolve and the Premier League club’s stance over their captain.

The Turkish champions, fresh from another title and hungry for a marquee name, are readying a four-year offer for Fernandes while lining up a €50m (£42.8m) bid to United, according to reports from The Telegraph and journalist Ben Jacobs.

Galatasaray’s big swing

This is not a tentative enquiry. Galatasaray president Dursun Özbek is described as “determined” to land Fernandes and is prepared to put serious money on the table to do it.

The proposed contract is eye-catching: a four-year deal worth €21m (£18.3m) net per season, plus a €4m signing-on bonus. Thanks to Turkey’s favourable tax system, that package would effectively double Fernandes’ current take-home pay at Old Trafford.

For a 31-year-old who has already turned down a life-changing offer once, it is a powerful pitch.

Last summer, Al-Hilal and the Saudi Pro League tried to lure Fernandes with huge wages. He walked away from that, choosing instead to stay at United and chase major honours in England and Europe. The money in Turkey will be vast again. The question is whether the timing, and the project, are any more persuasive.

Contract clock ticking

The leverage around Fernandes’ future has shifted slightly. A £57m release clause in his United deal has expired, removing the clean exit route that once existed. His current contract runs for only another year, though the club do hold an option to extend it by a further 12 months.

That gap between expiry and extension is where opportunistic clubs are now trying to squeeze in.

Fernandes has entered the final 12 months of his present terms, believed to be worth around £200,000 a week. United have yet to agree a new long-term deal with their talisman, and that delay has alerted suitors across Europe and beyond. Galatasaray are simply the boldest to show their hand so far.

United’s stance: not for sale

For now, Old Trafford is not blinking.

The Telegraph, BBC Sport and Ben Jacobs all report the same firm line from United: they have no intention of selling Bruno Fernandes this summer, regardless of the size of any offer.

Inside the club, the Portuguese playmaker is still seen as central to Michael Carrick’s plans. The idea is not to cash in, but to keep building a side around their captain, whose creativity, work rate and leadership remain pivotal in both the Premier League and Champions League campaigns ahead.

That view is backed up by reporting from TEAMtalk, who confirmed last week that United will keep Fernandes this summer despite the growing queue of admirers.

Player loyalty vs late-career reality

Crucially, the player’s own stance aligns with United’s – at least for now.

BBC Sport say Fernandes’ priority is to stay at Old Trafford. He is described as fiercely loyal to United and still driven by the ambition to win major trophies in Manchester, even though he could earn far more elsewhere.

At 31, the equation is changing. The option of one last major payday in a more lucrative league will not disappear. It may even grow stronger as his contract ticks down and his next move becomes, potentially, the final big decision of his career.

For the moment, though, Fernandes believes he has more to give at the highest level in England and in Europe. Galatasaray are testing that belief with money, years, and the promise of star status in Istanbul.

United have drawn their line. Galatasaray have made their play. The clock on Fernandes’ contract keeps ticking. How long can all three positions hold?
