Gattuso Addresses Icardi Rumors: Loyalty to Current Players

Gennaro Gattuso has drawn a firm line under the rumours. On the eve of his side’s next league match, the coach made it clear: the Mauro Icardi chatter ends here.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Gattuso backed the club’s summer business and underlined his loyalty to the players already through the door. Via Calciomercato.com, he was blunt about the constant links to the former Inter captain.

“Let's put this whole Icardi mess to rest. He has scored 250 goals in his career, and nobody questions his value. We made our choices; we signed [Andrea] Pinamonti and [Albert] Gudmundsson, and when you give your word to players, you can't go back on it. With all due respect to Icardi, I've discussed it with the president and the director, and it's right to stick to what we have.”

The message was unmistakable. Respect for Icardi’s record, zero appetite to rip up the current plan.

Gattuso then turned to a more practical problem: numbers. His squad is already creaking at the seams, particularly in defence, and he warned that adding another forward would only deepen the logjam.

“Right now, we already have players who have to sit out training because we have six full-backs. When Marusic returns, two of them will have to be left out, and that doesn't look good.”
