Barcelona's Gavi Expresses Gratitude After World Cup Triumph

Barcelona midfielder Gavi has opened up about the emotions following Spain’s 2026 FIFA World Cup win. Just hours after Spain’s narrow 1-0 victory over Argentina, the 21-year-old shared a deeply personal message reflecting on his rise from a young boy in Los Palacios to a world champion.

A Journey Captured in Two Photos

In a post on social media, Gavi posted two images illustrating his path: one of him as a child playing for La Liara Balompie in his hometown, and another showing him kissing the World Cup trophy after the final whistle. His caption touched many fans worldwide:

"May no one wake me from this dream – the dream of a boy from Los Palacios who dreamed of winning the World Cup with his country…"

He also acknowledged the hurdles he faced, including injuries that tested his resolve, but emphasized that every challenge was worth it in the end.

Thanking Those Who Shaped Him

The young midfielder made sure to express his gratitude to all who supported his career. He mentioned Real Betis, where his football story began, but reserved special praise for FC Barcelona and its famed academy, La Masia. The nurturing environment there, he said, was vital to his growth both on the pitch and as a person.

"I owe a great deal to everyone at La Masia who welcomed me from day one, and to the coaches and staff at FC Barcelona, who helped me grow as a footballer and as a person, and enabled me to become a world champion,"

Gavi also paid tribute to his grandmother, thanking her for the extra strength she gave him during recent months.

Role in the Tournament

Although not a regular starter throughout the tournament, Gavi contributed whenever Spain’s coach Luis de la Fuente called upon him. Across the competition, he played a total of 76 minutes, starting in the match against Cape Verde and coming on late in the knockout game against Austria.
