Barcelona Midfielder Gavi Declines Manchester United Transfer Interest

Barcelona's midfielder Gavi has turned down an approach from Manchester United. Manager Michael Carrick eyed the Spanish talent to strengthen his midfield, but the player is committed to staying with the Catalan club as he prepares for contract talks at Camp Nou.

Setback for Manchester United's Midfield Plans

Reports from the Mirror reveal that Manchester United have hit a major obstacle after Gavi refused to join the Premier League side. Carrick had identified the 22-year-old as a key addition ahead of the new season, with United ready to meet a £35 million asking price. Despite this, Gavi has no plans to leave Barcelona.

This rejection adds to the frustration of United fans, especially after spending around £85 million on Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos. The club now must search for another midfielder before the transfer window closes.

Gavi’s Loyalty to Barcelona and Recovery Journey

Gavi joined Barcelona's youth academy at 11 and has since made 119 league appearances since debuting in 2021. He was part of Spain’s squad that won the World Cup, though he did not feature in the final against Argentina.

Despite the arrival of Rodri, Barcelona considers Gavi a cornerstone of their project under coach Hansi Flick. Flick helped him regain form after a serious knee injury sidelined him for five months last season. The midfielder aims to one day wear the captain's armband.

"I have suffered a lot in the last two years. They were serious injuries and you have to be mentally strong," said Gavi. "I'm at this level because of my mentality. It is not easy to play at this pace after two serious injuries. I've done it and I'm proud. Luckily, the coach trusts me a lot. He's like a father to me. I am very grateful to him. It's not easy to get back to playing after injury. He knows my talent and mentality and that it's important for the team. He blindly trusts me."

What Lies Ahead?

Barcelona plans to start negotiations soon to extend Gavi's contract, which currently runs until 2030. Meanwhile, Manchester United must quickly shift focus to other midfield targets as the transfer deadline nears. The club also looks set to prioritize signing a new left-back to wrap up their summer business.
