Gavi Rejects Manchester United Move, Commits to Barcelona

Manchester United came knocking with money on the table. Gavi’s answer was short and sharp: no.

According to reports in England, relayed by SPORT, the Barcelona midfielder has rejected the chance to join United despite firm interest from the Premier League side in recent days. The message from the player’s camp is clear – he has no intention of leaving Camp Nou.

United’s £35m push for Gavi

United’s pursuit of Gavi is not a last‑minute whim. Michael Carrick and his staff had earmarked the La Masia product as a key option in their midfield rebuild.

They have already spent around £85 million on Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, reshaping the core of their side. Even so, they wanted one more piece. That is where Gavi came in.

The English club were ready to put £35 million – roughly €41 million – on the table to tempt Barcelona and test the player’s resolve.

The bid never got off the ground. Not because of the fee, but because of Gavi himself.

Door firmly closed on Old Trafford

From Gavi’s side, there is no debate. No flirting with the idea. No half-open door.

He has told those around him that he wants to stay at Barcelona and has no interest in a move to Old Trafford at this stage of his career.

The 20-year-old believes he still has a lot to prove in Catalonia. After a season interrupted by a serious knee injury that kept him out for six months, he sees this campaign as a chance to reclaim his status and influence under new coach Hansi Flick.

That conviction carries extra weight when you remember his roots. Gavi joined Barcelona at the age of 11 and has risen through La Masia to become one of its standout graduates. The difficult months on the sidelines have not shaken that bond. If anything, they seem to have hardened it.

Flick’s trust and a crowded midfield

The summer arrival of Rodri has ramped up the competition in Barcelona’s midfield. Flick now has a deeper pool of options in the centre of the pitch and will have to juggle minutes between several players who can operate in similar roles.

On paper, that could have opened the door to an exit. In reality, it has only sharpened Gavi’s focus.

Inside the club, the feeling is that Flick trusts the academy graduate and sees him as part of the project. Gavi, for his part, wants to answer that faith where it matters most – on the pitch.

His target is straightforward: win his place back, regain his importance in the team, and show he can be a central figure in Barcelona’s next cycle.

United offered a new league, a new country, and a leading role in a rebuilt midfield. Gavi chose the fight at home instead.
