Hansi Flick has wasted no time stamping his authority on Barcelona’s new era – and Alejandro Balde has felt it first.

As Barça began the defence of their La Liga crown away to Elche at the Estadio Martínez Valero, the focus before a ball was even kicked drifted from the fresh faces in the squad to the one conspicuous omission.

No Balde. Not even on the bench.

The full-back has dominated headlines around the club in recent days, with growing speculation over a possible Camp Nou exit. On a night that should have been about a clean slate and a title defence, his absence only cranked up the noise.

Flick, though, did not hide behind vague explanations.
