Harry Kane Focuses on Team Success After German Super Cup Win

Harry Kane walked away from another trophy lift with Bayern Munich and did what he usually does when the spotlight turns to him: he pushed it somewhere else.

Fresh from helping Bayern edge Borussia Dortmund 2-1 to win the German Super Cup, the England captain was asked about the individual prize that now shadows every elite performer – the Ballon d'Or. His answer was as measured as his movement in the box.

"A new season has begun, and it is nice to start it by winning a cup like the Super Cup. It is true that last season was the best of my career, but I am now focused on the new season," he told Marca, steering the conversation back toward team honours rather than personal glory.

Trophies piling up

The win over Dortmund adds another line to an already bulging Bayern chapter in Kane’s career. Since moving to Germany, he has stacked up the Golden Boot, the Bundesliga title, the German Cup and now the German Super Cup. All of that sits alongside his six goals at the World Cup, where England finished third.

It is the kind of résumé that usually drags a player into the Ballon d'Or debate whether he wants it or not. No Bayern player has claimed the award since Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, a gap that feels increasingly jarring for a club of their size and dominance.

Kane, though, kept his eyes on the collective target.

"We have to fight for all the titles again, including the Champions League," he said. "The Super Cup is the first of four titles we will fight for, and I hope we continue on this path."

In the Super Cup itself, Kane did not produce the kind of performance that usually lights up his highlight reels. He played the full 90 minutes, worked, linked, pressed, but never quite caught fire and did not get on the scoresheet.

"We will talk this week and next week. We will have an open discussion, and we are not in a hurry or feeling panicked," he said.
