Harry Kane Breaks Bundesliga Goal Record with 101 Goals

Harry Kane did not just rewrite a line in the record books. He ripped the page out.

Bayern Munich’s captain hit his 100th and 101st Bundesliga goals in a ruthless 7-0 demolition of Union Berlin, smashing a 49-year-old record for the fastest player to reach the century mark in Germany’s top flight. He needed only 98 league games. The old record, set by Cologne striker Dieter Müller in 1977, stood at 129.

The numbers are starting to look absurd. Since arriving in Munich in 2023, Kane has been scoring in the Bundesliga at a rate of a goal every 78.5 minutes. Across all competitions, he now has 152 goals in 154 appearances for Bayern, including 61 in 51 games last season alone. The landmark felt less like a surprise and more like an appointment everyone knew was coming.

Record-Breaking Moment

The record-breaking moment came in the 39th minute. Bayern already had Union pinned deep when Kane stepped up to the spot and hammered his penalty home, a thumping finish that carried the weight of history but the calm of a routine assignment. One swing, record gone.

He was not finished. Early in the second half, Kane drifted into the box, read the flight of a Michael Olise cross and guided a header in to make it 101. Bayern were cruising, top of the table before the rest of the weekend’s fixtures had even begun, their No 9 again at the centre of it all.

Other Highlights

On almost any other day, Olise would have owned the headlines. The winger produced his first Bayern hat-trick, tormenting Union with his movement and finishing. Jamal Musiala added a goal of his own, the kind of strike that usually decides tight games rather than gets lost in a seven-goal procession.

Kane, though, inevitably took the spotlight. Speaking to Sky Germany afterwards, he allowed himself a moment to take it in.

“I’m very proud to have now scored 100 and 101 Bundesliga goals. I haven’t been around that long. I’ve loved every second of it,” he said, before turning the attention back to those around him. “With Michael, Lucho [Luis Díaz] and Jamal I naturally get chances and today was no exception.

“So I just want to thank the team, the club, the coach, and the staff – everyone who has helped me achieve this. Let’s keep going like this. Scoring more goals in games is obviously a big step. Of course, there have been many important goals among them. I can only say that I’m enjoying every minute of it. Just like today.”

The message was clear. The record is a milestone, not a destination. With Bayern back on top and Kane scoring at a rate that bends logic, the real question now is how far he can push the numbers before anyone even thinks about chasing him down.
