Harry Kane Named Germany's Player of the Year 2026

BERLIN — Harry Kane’s first full campaign in Germany has ended with another landmark: the Bayern Munich striker has been voted Germany’s Player of the Year 2026, while Vincent Kompany collected the Coach of the Year award after a dominant season for the Bavarian giants.

Kane’s numbers were impossible to ignore. Sixty-one goals in all competitions for Bayern, including the German Supercup, as he spearheaded a successful defence of the Bundesliga title and added the German Cup. In the cup final, he underlined his status as the league’s headline act with a hat trick on the biggest domestic stage.

The new season has started with more silverware. On Saturday, Bayern beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 to lift the German Supercup again. Kane didn’t score this time, but his presence and movement remained central to Bayern’s attacking threat as they edged their rivals in Dortmund’s own backyard.

The award, run by Kicker and decided by 659 members of the Association of German Sports Journalists (VDS), turned into a clear verdict. Kane collected 272 votes, finishing comfortably ahead of Bayern teammate Michael Olise, who received 203. Behind them, Deniz Undav earned 61 votes, with Bayern’s Joshua Kimmich on 21 and Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann on 14. Kicker reported three invalid ballots.

On the touchline, Kompany’s impact was rewarded just as emphatically. The Belgian, overseeing Bayern’s latest title-winning campaign, secured nearly half of all votes cast in the coach category, finishing ahead of Freiburg’s Julian Schuster, last year’s winner. His recognition underlines how quickly he has imposed his ideas and authority at a club where expectations never drop.

Florian Wirtz was last year’s Player of the Year, a reminder of how fiercely contested the award has become in an era rich with attacking talent. Yet this time the spotlight swung decisively to Munich and to Kane, whose debut years in Germany have rewritten standards for a foreign forward.

The honors themselves carry weight. The Player of the Year prize has been running since 1960, a roll of honor topped by Franz Beckenbauer with four wins. Coaches have been recognized since 2002, with Jürgen Klopp and Felix Magath sharing the benchmark of three awards each.

Kane and Kompany now join that lineage, driving Bayern’s latest era of success — and raising the question of how long anyone in Germany can realistically stop them.
