Andrés Iniesta’s second football life starts on Friday night, far from Camp Nou and the European spotlight, at New Dibba Stadium in the UAE First Division.

The Spain and Barcelona great, who ended his playing days with Emirates Club earlier in 2024, officially begins his managerial career in charge of Gulf United FC. The transition has been brisk and deliberate: retirement, completion of his UEFA A licence, and then, in June, straight into the hot seat at the ambitious Dubai-based club. He is already working towards the UEFA Pro Licence, building the academic side of coaching to match his playing pedigree.

Gulf United, founded only in 2019, have already climbed the ladder with two promotions and now field the youngest squad in the division. “We are really looking forward to Friday. We have been working with the team for several weeks on a clear style of play, and now it is time to compete,” Iniesta said, underlining that the tactical work is done; the test now is execution under pressure.
