Inter Milan Nears £30m Deal for Curtis Jones as Liverpool Cash In
Inter Milan are edging towards a deal for Curtis Jones, with the Italian champions expected to land the Liverpool midfielder for around £30m (€35m).
The move has been building for months. Inter first tested Liverpool’s resolve in June with a verbal offer of €25m (£21.7m), but that was swiftly knocked back. Liverpool set their price closer to £35m, aware the 25-year-old has just a year left on his contract yet still determined not to lose him on the cheap.
Now the gap is narrowing. The current understanding is that a package worth about £30m would be enough to trigger an agreement. Sources in Italy believe a verbal deal is already in place, though both clubs insist there are still details to iron out before anything is signed.
Liverpool are ready to sell. They want a fee in line with the £30m Inter paid Tottenham for Djed Spence, and see Jones as a similar-value asset in a market where squad players with European experience command serious money.
Inter’s interest is nothing new. They tried to prise Jones away in January, proposing an initial loan with an option to buy. Liverpool rejected that approach, unwilling to lose him mid-season without guaranteed value at the end of it.
Jones has been a loyal servant at Anfield since breaking through under Jurgen Klopp in 2019. He has racked up 228 appearances for the club, a figure that underlines his durability and trust from successive managers. Last season he featured 49 times in all competitions, but the numbers tell a different story in the Premier League: only 18 starts, and a constant battle to lock down a regular place in Arne Slot’s midfield.
That lack of guaranteed minutes now looks like it could push him towards Serie A and a new stage of his career, while handing Liverpool a sizeable fee as they reshape their squad.
