Inter Milan Nears £30m Deal for Curtis Jones from Liverpool

Inter Milan are moving to the brink of signing Curtis Jones from Liverpool in a deal expected to be worth around 35m euros (£30m).

The Italian champions saw a verbal offer of 25m euros (£21.7m) knocked back in June, with Liverpool making it clear they valued the 25-year-old closer to £35m. That stance has softened. A package in the region of £30m now looks like the sweet spot.

Sources in Italy believe a verbal agreement is already in place. Both clubs, though, are still working through the finer details before anything is signed off.

Liverpool are prepared to let Jones go, but only at a figure that reflects the £30m Inter recently paid Tottenham for Djed Spence. That deal has become the benchmark in negotiations.

Inter’s interest is not new. They tried to prise Jones away in January with a loan offer that included an option to buy. Liverpool rejected that proposal, unwilling at the time to lose a homegrown midfielder without a guaranteed fee.

Jones, a product of Liverpool’s academy, has been a long-term presence in the first-team squad. Since his debut under Jurgen Klopp in 2019, he has made 228 appearances for the club.

Last season under Arne Slot, he featured 49 times in all competitions but started only 18 Premier League games. Competition in midfield and tactical tweaks left him fighting for a regular place.

Now, with one year left on his contract and Inter pushing hard, Liverpool look ready to cash in. The next conversation between the clubs may be the one that finally sends Jones to Serie A.
