Jackson and Delap Set for Chelsea Exit as Alonso Rebuilds
Nicolas Jackson and Liam Delap are both expected to leave Chelsea before the transfer window closes, with their Stamford Bridge futures all but written off.
The forward duo were left out of Xabi Alonso’s squad for the 3-1 win over Real Sociedad on Sunday, a clear signal of where they now sit in the pecking order as talk over moves gathers pace.
Jackson is back at Chelsea after a season on loan at Bayern Munich, but his return looks set to be brief. Aston Villa are keen, and Chelsea value the Senegal international at around £65m, a fee that would represent a significant sale as Alonso reshapes his attack.
Delap’s situation is even more stark. After a flat debut campaign in which he scored just twice in 41 appearances, Chelsea are ready to cut their losses and sanction his departure. The 23-year-old, who arrived from Ipswich for £30m last summer, has interest from abroad and at home.
Como have registered their intent from Italy, yet Delap is understood to favour staying in the Premier League. Everton, Fulham and Nottingham Forest have all been linked with a move as clubs weigh up a striker who still carries potential despite a difficult first year in west London.
Sky Sports report that both Jackson and Delap are likely to move on before the window shuts, with Alonso prepared to go into the season leaning on Joao Pedro and Danny Welbeck as his main options through the middle.
Two big-money forwards on the way out, a new hierarchy emerging up front – and a Chelsea rebuild that shows no sign of slowing.
