Jamal Musiala Receives Driving Ban After High-Speed A8 Crash
Jamal Musiala has been handed a driving ban after a high-speed crash on the A8 motorway, capping a bruising spell on and off the pitch for Bayern Munich’s young star.
A8 crash at almost 200 km/h
The incident dates back to April 13, 2025. Musiala was driving an Audi RS e-tron GT towards Salzburg, a car built to unleash more than 600 horsepower. He reportedly had his younger sister in the passenger seat.
According to the Munich I Public Prosecutor's Office, the 23-year-old attempted an overtaking manoeuvre at excessive speed and misjudged a car to his right. Florian Lindemann, spokesperson for the office, outlined the core of the case: during the move, “the accused Jamal M., who was driving at excessive speed at the time, overlooked a car driving to his right, resulting in a collision.”
The numbers are stark. Musiala was travelling at 194 km/h in a 120 km/h zone.
His car collided with a VW Golf carrying two people, a 30-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman. Both suffered minor injuries. Musiala, described in reports as shocked by what had happened, immediately went to check on the occupants of the other vehicle. Property damage from the crash has been estimated at around €200,000.
Court ruling and driving ban
The investigation moved slowly but decisively. On January 28, 2026, the Munich District Court issued a penal order against Musiala, which has now become legally binding.
Lindemann confirmed that the order was made “against the accused Jamal M. for negligent endangerment of road traffic and negligent bodily injury in two cases.”
The punishment cuts in two directions. There is a financial penalty, but the more telling sanction for a 23-year-old in the public eye is the loss of his licence. His representatives have acknowledged the incident after it had largely stayed out of public view for months.
The ban is not a token measure. Lindemann clarified that “a new driving licence may not be issued to Musiala before the expiry of nine months from the time the penal order became legally binding,” meaning he will not be allowed back on the road until the autumn.
A brutal stretch for Bayern’s prodigy
The timing could hardly be worse for a player already fighting his way through the most testing period of his career.
Musiala’s 2025 campaign had been wrecked by a serious injury at the Club World Cup, where he suffered a fractured fibula and a dislocated ankle – the most significant physical setback of his professional life so far. He made his return in January, only to be jolted again by another ankle issue in March.
Now comes a legal stain and a driving ban to go with the medical charts and rehab sessions.
For a footballer who has built his reputation on balance, control and split-second decision-making, the contrast with that night on the A8 could hardly be sharper. The question now is how he responds – not just with the ball at his feet, but with the spotlight fixed firmly back on his judgement away from the pitch.
