Jamie Vardy Joins That’s Football for Bundesliga Commentary

Jamie Vardy is swapping the penalty box for the commentary box – and he’s doing it in Germany.

According to The Athletic’s German football correspondent Seb Stafford-Bloor, the former Leicester City and England striker is now a live rights holder for the Bundesliga and will make his debut later tonight, covering Bayern Munich vs Stuttgart.

It is an eye-catching move. Vardy is joining That’s Football, the fan-led channel hosted by Mark Goldbridge of The United Stand fame, to help bring Germany’s top flight into a landscape dominated by Premier League coverage in Britain and Ireland.

For the Bundesliga, this is calculated and bold. By cutting deals with That’s Football and now Vardy, the league is leaning on two of the most recognisable English football personalities – one from the pitch, one from YouTube – to drag more British and Irish eyes towards its title race, its fan culture, and its rising stars.

The idea is simple: if traditional broadcasters won’t give the league prime real estate, then familiar English voices will. Watchalongs, reaction shows, and live coverage fronted by names fans already trust offer a different route into living rooms that usually tune in only for Super Sunday.

Kevin Hatchard, one of the English-language commentators on the Bundesliga’s world feed, has already weighed in on Vardy’s arrival, welcoming the move and the prospect of a Premier League-era cult hero fronting live watchalongs of German football.

Vardy built a career on upsetting the established order. Now he’s trying to do the same for how fans in Britain and Ireland consume the Bundesliga.
