Jeremy Doku Commits Future to Manchester City with New Five-Year Deal

Jeremy Doku has committed his future to Manchester City, signing a new five-year contract that ties him to the Premier League champions until at least 2031.

The Belgian winger, one of the most electric attackers in England since arriving from Rennes in 2023, has become a cornerstone of City’s evolving frontline. Still only 24, Doku has already racked up 131 appearances for the club, scoring 22 goals and supplying 34 assists while helping City lift the Premier League, Club World Cup, FA Cup and League Cup.

For a squad stepping into a new era under Enzo Maresca, this is a statement move.

Doku buys into Maresca’s City

Maresca, who has stepped into the daunting role of replacing Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium, now builds his first City side around a winger perfectly suited to his aggressive, possession-heavy game.

Doku made it clear that the Italian’s ideas played a decisive role in his choice to extend.

"I have loved my time at City so far, so to have the opportunity to stay for longer is a fantastic feeling," he said. "This club means so much to me – I have developed as both a player and a person. I feel settled here, and I know I am improving every day because of the work the staff here do.

"With Enzo here now I am really excited about the new season. His style of football is the kind we love, so that's exciting for the players."

For Maresca, who begins his Premier League campaign on August 21, keeping one of Europe’s most dangerous one-on-one wingers is a huge early victory.

“A special dynamic”

Inside the club, there is no doubt about Doku’s trajectory. City’s director of football, Hugo Viana, underlined just how highly they rate the Belgian international, who already has 48 caps and featured at the recent World Cup.

"Jeremy is a huge talent whose improvement since joining us in 2023 is clear for all to see," Viana said. "He has a special dynamic. He has the right characteristics for what we are looking for in a winger. He really does bring a special quality to our team.

"He deserves this new deal, and I know he will continue his improvement in the coming months and years."

City keep their livewire wide man. Maresca gets a key weapon for his first season in charge. And the rest of the Premier League must work out how to stop a winger who looks nowhere near finished.
