Joël Piroe Joins West Ham United on Loan for 2026/27 Season

Joël Piroe leaves Leeds United on loan to West Ham United for the rest of the 2026/27 campaign, trading one promotion chase for another in the Sky Bet Championship.

The Surinamese striker arrived at Elland Road from Swansea City in August 2023 on the back of a prolific season in South Wales, where he struck 19 league goals and built a reputation as one of the division’s deadliest finishers.

He wasted no time justifying the move. Thrown straight in against Ipswich Town in the Championship only two days after signing, Piroe marked his debut with a goal for Daniel Farke’s side, an early sign of the impact he would have in West Yorkshire.

That first season in white ended with 53 appearances and 16 goals in all competitions, Piroe becoming a constant presence at the top end of the pitch as Leeds pushed for a return to the top flight.

The real statement came the following year. Piroe featured 48 times and hit 19 goals as Leeds United stormed to the Championship title and sealed their return to the Premier League. His finishing earned him the Golden Boot, underlining his status as the division’s standout marksman.

Now 27, Piroe heads to the London Stadium to spearhead a different kind of recovery mission. West Ham United, relegated last season, are banking on his goals to power an immediate return to the Premier League.

Leeds United, in confirming the loan, have thanked Piroe for his contribution and wished him well for his spell in claret and blue at the London Stadium.
