Jordan Ayew Set for Sheffield United Debut Against Wolverhampton

Jordan Ayew is in line to pull on a Sheffield United shirt for the first time on Sunday, with Chris Wilder confirming the new signing will be involved against Wolverhampton Wanderers (12:00 BST).

The Ghana forward arrived as a free agent on Tuesday and went straight into the matchday squad that evening, taking a place on the bench for the game against Blackburn Rovers. Wilder wasted no time underlining why United moved quickly for the 32-year-old.

"One of the attractions of signing Jordan, not just the level of his experience, his availability record is just incredible," the Blades boss said. "We are delighted physically where he's at and he will definitely be involved."

Ayew’s potential debut comes as Wilder continues to juggle a stretched, weary squad. Midfielder Hamza Choudhury lasted just 58 minutes against Rovers before being withdrawn, a change the manager put down to fatigue rather than fresh injury trouble.

Even so, the demands on the Bangladesh international are unlikely to ease. With options thin, Wilder expects Choudhury to feature again at the weekend.

"There's a few in an ideal world would be getting rested and maybe not starting, but that's the situation at the moment," Wilder admitted.

So Ayew steps into a dressing room running on fumes, but badly in need of his experience and durability. On Sunday at Bramall Lane, Sheffield United will find out how quickly their newest forward can make that count.
