Juventus Secure Permanent Transfer of Colombian Defender Jhon Lucumi from Bologna
Juventus have officially announced the permanent transfer of Colombian defender Jhon Lucumi from Serie A rivals Bologna. The centre-back has signed a contract running until June 2030, committing his future to the Turin club.
Defender Chooses Juventus Over Multiple Offers
The 28-year-old centre-back turned down five competing offers across Europe to join Juventus, aiming to strengthen their defence for the 2026-27 season. The deal between Juventus and Bologna is reportedly worth an initial €18 million, with a possible €2 million in add-ons. Lucumi's contract reportedly pays him €3 million net each season over four years.
Player’s Career Path and Club's Statement
Lucumi began his professional journey at Deportivo Cali at just 17 years old before making a name for himself in Belgium with Genk starting in 2018. The club's official announcement praised the signing, describing Lucumi as a player at the height of his abilities, ready to contribute immediately as the new season approaches.
"Juventus are signing a player at the peak of his powers, ready to make an immediate contribution to the team ahead of the 2026/27 season."
Impact at Bologna and Champions League Experience
Lucumi spent four seasons at Bologna since joining in summer 2022, appearing in 152 matches across all competitions. He became a vital figure in their defence and experienced Champions League football with the Rossoblu, scoring twice during his time at Stadio Renato Dall'Ara.
Upcoming Debut and Season Opener
With the transfer now complete, Lucumi will quickly integrate into Juventus' tactical training sessions. The team is set to kick off the 2026-27 Serie A season away against Frosinone on Sunday, August 23, where the Colombian defender is expected to make his debut for the club.
