Juventus Sign Nick Woltemade on Loan to Address Attacking Needs

Juventus have struck a deal to take Newcastle United forward Nick Woltemade on a season-long loan, moving quickly to solve their attacking gap before Tuesday’s deadline.

The 24-year-old, signed by Newcastle from Stuttgart in August 2025, will now head to Turin for a medical after the clubs agreed a £3.5m fee. The agreement is a straight loan: no option, no obligation, no strings attached beyond this season.

Juventus pick Woltemade over Zirkzee

Juventus have been hunting a forward with Jonathan David poised to join Atletico Madrid on loan, and their shortlist had been crowded with continental options. Talks were held with Manchester United over Joshua Zirkzee after his proposed move to Fiorentina collapsed late on, but that trail cooled quickly.

The numbers told their own story. Zirkzee would have required an obligation-to-buy clause that Manchester United were pushing to include. Juventus walked away from that structure and turned to Woltemade, who they see as a better tactical fit and, crucially, a cheaper, more flexible deal.

At £3.5m for the season and no compulsory purchase clause, Woltemade arrives as a lower-risk solution in a market where prices and demands have spiralled.

Newcastle clear the path

The move comes at a time when Woltemade has struggled to nail down a starting spot under new Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle. The club’s £69m record signing has started only one of Jaissle’s first three matches, used more as an impact option than a centrepiece.

He reminded everyone of his quality at the weekend, coming off the bench to set up Yoane Wissa’s goal in Newcastle’s 2-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur. The assist underlined his ability, but it did not change the wider picture of his role in Jaissle’s plans.

Newcastle had already begun to reshape their forward line. BBC Sport reported that their move for Lille striker Matias Fernandez-Pardo was likely to open the door for Woltemade’s exit, and that prediction is now playing out. Fernandez-Pardo flew into Tyneside on Monday evening to finalise a transfer worth up to £55m, a deal designed to anchor Newcastle’s attack for the long term.

With Fernandez-Pardo incoming and Woltemade on his way to Serie A, both clubs have made their call. Juventus get the mobile forward they wanted without a long-term financial commitment. Newcastle bank a loan fee, clear space in the squad and hand Jaissle a new focal point.
