Juventus Signs Pape Matar Sarr on Loan from Tottenham

Juventus have struck a deal with Tottenham Hotspur to sign midfielder Pape Matar Sarr in a move that could rise to €30 million, according to transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano.

The 23-year-old Senegal international will head to Turin on an initial loan, with an option to buy written into the agreement. That clause will not stay optional for long if things go to plan. It turns into an obligation if Juventus hit certain performance triggers, including Champions League qualification and Sarr reaching agreed appearance targets over the season.

Juventus pounce as Sarr pushes for a new stage

Talks between the clubs accelerated once Sarr made it clear he wanted a fresh challenge away from North London. His path into the Tottenham midfield had grown more congested under Roberto De Zerbi, especially after the arrivals of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali.

Monaco were widely viewed as front-runners for the former FC Metz man at one stage. That changed quickly. Once Juventus came calling, Sarr agreed personal terms without fuss, drawn to a club that see him as a central piece rather than another option in the rotation.

For the Bianconeri, this is a late-window move with a clear tactical purpose. After other midfield targets slipped away, they turned firmly to Sarr, attracted by his high-energy, box-to-box profile and aggressive ball-winning. He offers legs, intensity, and the ability to shuttle between both penalty areas – exactly the kind of presence Juventus have been missing in the centre of the pitch.

Spurs cash in and clear space

From Tottenham’s side, the deal trims a crowded midfield group and could turn into a significant payday if the purchase clause is triggered. Sarr leaves after making over 100 competitive appearances for Spurs since his 2021 arrival from Metz, a spell in which he developed from a prospect into a reliable squad option.

His departure also reshapes Tottenham’s late-window priorities. With one midfielder out, the club are turning their attention higher up the pitch. They are in the market for another attacker, with Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye currently at the top of their shortlist. That pursuit is anything but straightforward, with Arsenal and Manchester City also in the hunt.

For now, Sarr has been given the green light to travel to Turin, complete his medical, and sign his contract before the deadline. If he hits the ground running in Serie A and Juventus return to the Champions League, this will not be a loan for long.
