Kenan Yildiz Returns to Juventus Squad for Pre-Season Match

Kenan Yildiz is back in a Juventus squad, and that alone adds a touch of intrigue to what might otherwise be just another lucrative pre-season stop on the tour map.

Under the heavy Hong Kong humidity at Kai Tak Stadium, Juventus face Marco Palestra’s Chelsea on Wednesday afternoon, with eyes inevitably drifting toward the Bianconeri bench. That’s where Yildiz sits, finally ready for his first minutes of the summer.

Yildiz returns, cautiously

The Turkish international has not kicked a ball for Juventus in pre-season since returning from the World Cup, his knee and overall fitness closely monitored and carefully managed. The medical staff have taken no risks. Luciano Spalletti has done the same.

Now, at least, Yildiz’s name is back on a teamsheet. Listed among the substitutes, he is expected to be eased in during the second half, a controlled reintroduction rather than a grand unveiling. For Juventus, the priority is simple: get him moving, get him confident, and get him through the night unscathed.

Milik’s chance at centre stage

While the spotlight hovers over Yildiz, the starting XI offers its own storyline. Juventus leave both of their headline arrivals, Randal Kolo Muani and Kerim Alajbegovic, out of the line-up. Their time will come. For now, a familiar figure gets a rare window.

Arkadiusz Milik leads the line, an old-school centre-forward in a squad increasingly shaped around mobility and fluidity. These are the nights that matter for players like him. No points at stake, but plenty of judgement.

Just behind him, Jeremie Boga and Fabio Miretti provide the support cast, tasked with threading passes and breaking lines. It is a blend of experience and promise, the kind of attacking trio that can either click instantly or spend 45 minutes searching for each other’s runs.

In midfield, Douglas Luiz starts alongside captain Manuel Locatelli, a pairing that already feels like the spine of Spalletti’s evolving side. Locatelli anchors, Luiz knits play and breaks pressure. On the flanks, Andrea Cambiaso and summer signing Zeki Celik operate as wing-backs, expected to stretch Chelsea’s shape and deliver service into Milik.

Behind them, the Juventus shape is a 3-4-2-1: Di Gregorio in goal, protected by Kalulu, Gatti and Kelly. It is a framework built for control, but pre-season often laughs at tactical theory.

Palestra steps into the blue shirt

On the other side, Chelsea arrive with their own headline act. Marco Palestra, the Italy international who completed a €60m move from Atalanta earlier in the summer, goes straight into the starting XI.

This is not a gentle bedding-in. Palestra starts in a back four, part of a Chelsea side that is being reshaped again, this time under Xabi Alonso. Every touch will be scrutinised. Every duel will be a first impression.

Chelsea are without Levi Colwill and Cole Palmer, both kept out on precautionary grounds, but the squad depth is obvious. Mykhailo Mudryk, only recently back, has to settle for a place among the substitutes. The bench is stacked: 21 replacements at Alonso’s disposal, a full pre-season laboratory.

Up front, new recruit Danny Welbeck walks straight into the attack. The veteran forward lines up in a 4-2-3-1, flanked and supported by Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens and Geovany Quenda. It is an attacking unit with pace, variety and plenty to prove.

Behind them, Moises Caicedo partners Nicoll-Jazuli in the double pivot, while the back four of Palestra, Tosin, Fofana and Hato screens goalkeeper Sanchez.
