Kompany's Bold Call on Saibari as Bayern Face Stuttgart

Vincent Kompany has wasted no time showing he will do things his way at Bayern Munich. On the opening night of the Bundesliga season, against Stuttgart on Friday, the Belgian coach again left new signing Ismael Saibari among the substitutes.

Just as in the German Super Cup win over Borussia Dortmund, the Moroccan playmaker had to watch on at kick-off. Kompany instead pushed Nathaniel Brown into the attacking midfield role, a striking decision given the German is naturally a full-back.

Saibari arrived in Munich this summer on a wave of expectation after standout performances for PSV Eindhoven and the Morocco national team. For now, though, he must wait his turn.

Kompany’s First Bundesliga XI

Kompany’s first Bundesliga XI as Bayern coach lined up as follows:

  • In goal, the ever-present Manuel Neuer.
  • Ahead of him, a back four of Alphonso Davies, Kim Min-jae, Dayot Upamecano and Konrad Laimer.
  • In midfield, Aleksandar Pavlovic and Joshua Kimmich formed the base, with Brown pushed higher up the pitch as the central attacking option.
  • The front three carried a sharp edge: Luis Diaz and Michael Olise flanking Harry Kane.

Bayern come into the league curtain-raiser with early momentum. They began their season by beating Dortmund 2-1 in the German Super Cup at Signal Iduna Park last Saturday, a first statement under Kompany.

Now the real grind starts — and so does the wait to see when Saibari finally gets his chance from the first whistle.
